Personal Reflection on Mock Interview
Completing the mock Interview stream made me realize how others may view or perceive me based on my tone of voice, demeanor, body language and ability to respond on the spot to unexpected questions. The first impressions through the video reflected an overall good non-verbal communication. I can be viewed as a personable, friendly and well presentable candidate wearing professional attire. But overall verbal communication needs improvement. My voice came across somewhat monotone, which reflects the need to place more emphasis, energy, and enthusiasm in the way I convey my answers. Even though I allowed myself to pause, slowing down when answering the questions, and being careful searching my words to avoid slang terms and using wrong grammar.
I found the need to prepare further in order to articulate better my relevant skills and accomplishments. It’s essential for me to learn how to improve the way I express my ideas more clearly and make sure I provide a firm and coherent answer to the questions, as well as to be able to emphasize my strong points to come across more assertive, knowledgeable and confident.
Although I maintained a good posture through the interview, I found myself rocking somewhat while providing the answers, which can be perceived as nervous or insecure. The biggest challenge I found overall during the mock interview was the lack of preparation to answer tough questions and describe well past experiences that helped reflect my strengths. I believe I could have used this opportunity to showcase better my personal skills, qualities, and abilities to attract the employer and awaken interest to put me forward on the next round.
